Surya Binayak Temple
Suryabinayak, located in the Surya Binayak area, south of the ancient city of Bhaktapur, is one of the four Siddha Binayakas of the valley, along with Chandra Binayak in Chabahil, Jal Binayak in Chobar and Ashok Binayak in Kathmandu Durbar Square. Suryabinayak is regarded as the oldest of the four. According to a historical mythology, Bishnu Dev Burma, a Lichhavi king, constructed this temple 1500 years ago.
According to conflicting later records, the temple was built during the reign of King Bhupatindra Malla in the 17th century. There are further reports of it being maintained and restored later, during King Mahendra Shah.
It is said that the Suryabinayak Ganesh temple grants children with good hearing, speech, and mobility. On the Tuesdays of Chaturmas, the temple is thus thronged with worshipers. Devotees offer mirror to the Suryavinayak.
Hindu celebrations like marriage and Karmakanda can be held in the Suryabinayak Ganesh Temple.
