Kaal Bhairav, Kathmandu

This is the ancient statue of Kaal Bhairav known as the care-taker of Nepal. King Pratap Malla in 1775 Nepal Sambat brought it from Raniban and established at his courtyard, Hanuman Dhoka. It is 16-feet stone idol, the only of this type.

It is believed that anyone who would lie down in front of the idol would attain freedom from their lives.

The idol of Kala Bhairav is seen standing in a violent form, stepping over a dead body holding a decapitated head in one hand.
