HR and IT needed completely different views of the same data

We had a problem nobody talks about when you start looking at monitoring tools: HR wants to see productivity and attendance, IT wants to see policy breaches and security risks. Most tools give everyone the same dashboard, which means either HR is drowning in technical alerts they don't understand, or IT is sifting through productivity data that isn't their job. Neither group is happy.
What we ended up deploying from software like OctoWatch solved that with role-based access in the console. HR sees the activity and timesheet modules. IT sees keystrokes, file activity and the Risks feed. Same data underneath, different windows onto it, and nobody gets access to what they don't need. That split alone ended about six months of internal arguing about who should be allowed to look at what. On top of that, the deployment side was simpler than expected: the agent rolls out via Group Policy, and settings profiles let you apply different rules per department rather than one blanket configuration for the whole company. Windows only, which suited us, and it handles RDS sessions too. If you're caught between two departments with different expectations, that access model is worth looking at.
