Meeting with Former President
With the change in the political system, it feels as though the issues concerning victims/survivors of the armed conflict—including those affected by landmines, Improvized Explosive Devices (IEDs) and explosive remnants of war (ERW) during the 1996–2006 conflict—are gradually being pushed into the background.
Against the backdrop of these issues not being mentioned in the budget announcement, relief and rehabilitation being provided only for those injured or killed in the Gen-Z movement, positions in the TR commission responsible for taking initiatives to implement decisions made in favor of victims/survivors as stipulated in the TRC Bill still remaining vacant, and reports emerging of attempts to reverse decisions that have already been implemented in favor of victims/survivors, Ban Landmines Campaign Nepal (NCBL) met with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari and briefed her on the issues currently being raised.
During the meeting, she was also reminded of the commitments she had expressed in support of victims/survivors in the past. She assured members of NCBL that she would schedule meetings with a delegation of the victims/survivors soon.
