The Asian Women's Research Institute is a faculty research institute of Sookmyung Women's University and was the first women's research institute in Korea to be established on September 1, 1960. The institute, which is approaching its half-century anniversary, aims to: first, promote the improvement of the status of Korean and Asian women; second, seek education and development of future female leaders; third, encourage women's achievements in the legal, political, economic, educational, and cultural areas; fourth, compare and study women's issues between Asia, including Korea, China, Japan, and Southeast Asian countries, and Western societies; and fifth, establish a foundation for women's policies through research on the changes in women's roles and status in the 21st century information society. In order to realize these goals, the Asian Women's Research Institute is playing a pivotal role as a women's research institute by carrying out projects such as publishing books related to women's issues, investigating and collecting research materials, hosting symposiums and academic seminars, and conducting academic exchanges related to women around the world. In addition, in order to realize a gender-equal society, we have focused on various research and development of specific strategies, and have conducted various studies on the status and role of women in Korea and the world in the fields of law, politics, education, economy, and culture, and through these, have conducted various studies to strengthen the status of women in the 21st century and establish the foundation for women's policies. In addition to conducting projects to recognize and analyze women's issues and suggest effective solutions to them, we are continuously seeking to establish a common foundation for theory and practice to improve the status of women in Korean society through publishing research books, hosting domestic and international academic conferences, and cultural projects. Currently, the elite staff consisting of the director of the institute, one secretary, one principal researcher, one academic research professor, six researchers, and three research assistants are conducting research projects and conducting various operations and projects.
