Meeting Hon. Metmani Chaudhary
On May 24th NCBL continued its advocacy with parliamentarians and met with Hon. Metmani Chaudhary who has a history of working on the issue of Mine Action. Hon. Metmani Chaudhary has demonstrated his commitment to NCBL’s cause by chairing the Parliamentary Forum Against Landmines and Explosives (PFaLE) and he has committed to speaking in the parliament regarding the entry of Nepal as state party to the Mine Ban Treaty (MBT) and the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM).
Beyond joining the treaties, Hon.Metmani Chaudhary is also committed to addressing the issues of IEDs used during the war, investigations into possible locations of hidden stockpiles in Nepal and government transparency regarding these issues. Also supported by Hon. Metmani Chaudhary, is NCLB’s victim assistance agenda which includes the continuation and further funding for victim assistance and support for families of casualties. To better help victims and survivors, NCBL and its supporters such as Hon. Metmani Chaudhary are advocating for the formulation of an official centralized database to better understand the number of actual survivors and casualties of landmines and IEDs in Nepal. This type of database would make providing assistance easier.
