Nepal was declared a minefield free country in 2011, yet the tragic reality of explosive remnants of war (ERW) continues to pose a grave threat to civilians, particularly children. Recent incidents highlight this ongoing danger: in Panchthar District, located in eastern Nepal, two children lost their lives and two others were injured due to an explosion in the home of a former combatant. In Rolpa District, in the west, ERW, specifically socket bombs, were discovered within a school compound, putting students at risk.
In response to this alarming situation, students are actively participating in a signature collection campaign to advocate for the clearance of all remnants of war and to protect children from further harm. This important initiative is currently ongoing.
