7 Human Foods to Avoid for Your Dog

Feeding human food to dogs can be dangerous, as many human foods can be toxic or harmful. Compliance with a well-balanced and appropriate diet designed for dogs is essential. Here are seven common human foods that you should not feed your dog.

Chocolate: Chocolate contains the bromine and caffeine, which can be toxic to dogs. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are especially dangerous because they contain high levels of these substances. Consumption can cause vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, seizures and even death in severe cases.

Grapes and raisins: Grapes and raisins can improve dogs’ kidney function, and even small amounts can be toxic. Symptoms include vomiting, nausea, fatigue and decreased appetite.

Onions and garlic: Onions and garlic contain compounds that can damage a dog’s red blood cells, causing blood clots. Small pieces of onions or raw cooked garlic or powder can hurt you.

Avocados: Avocados contain persin, which is toxic to dogs in high concentrations. While meat is generally considered harmless, persin is high in the pit, skin and leaves, and can cause stomach upset

Xylitol: Xylitol is a sugar substitute commonly found in sugar-free candies, candies, baked goods, and many other products. It can cause rapid insulin secretion in dogs, leading to hypoglycemia (hyperglycemia), seizures and liver failure.

Alcohol: Alcohol is very dangerous for dogs, even in small amounts. Inflammation, nausea, dysfunction, central nervous system depression, dyspnea, and even death may occur.

Bones: Cooked bones, especially from chickens or other small animals, can break down and cause internal damage, such as tearing or blocking digestive tracts

Remember that dogs react differently to certain foods, and certain breeds or individuals may be more sensitive to certain toxins. Always consult your veterinarian before introducing new foods to your dog’s diet. If you suspect your dog has ingested any harmful food, seek veterinary care immediately.
