Raute

Raute are a nomadic gypsy ethnic group officially recognized by the Government of Nepal. There are less than 650 rautes in Nepal. Government has been providing Rs 4000 per raute. The Raute community built houses using wooden poles, leaves, and grass. This community, which lives in dense forests and rarely inhabits human settlements. They are known for subsistence hunting of monkeys. The Raute live in an area known as the middle hills, between the flat land of Nepal's southern Terai region and the Himalayas.
