Ghongi is a type of river snail commonly found in still and moving waters in Nepal. It is considered a delicacy in the Tharu, Rajbansi, Santhal, Jangbad, Kumal and Bote indigenous communities. During festival season, Ghongi is served to guests as part of assorted dishes and delicacies; it is sometimes served alongside chicken and mutton.
