Welcome speech by Purna Shova Chitrakar

Respectable Chief guest former prime minister Jhalanath Khanal, special guest his Excellency Mr. Wu Chuntai, Ms. Jiang Chunyan, honorable members of Constituent Assembly, representative from All China Women Federation, distinguish guests, journalists and friends, first of all on behalf of Nepal China Women Friendship Society I would like to heartily welcome you and would like to express my sincere thanks for your contribution to this event. Namaste and nihaw,

Geographically Nepal is divided into three parts, Mountain region, Hilly region and Terai Region. I remember since my primary school I was taught that the Mountain region was underdeveloped and the Terai was the place with lots of possibilities for development majorly due to geographical cause. I recently had an opportunity to visit some districts in the Mountainous region neighboring Tibet. From my travel I came to realize that the region, unlike what we were taught, is the place with lots of development possibilities. In those areas we can find the most delicious and organic crops, world's most delicious fruits, special and uncommon animals and herbs, amazing natural landmarks, and very kind and helpful people. Therefore I came to the conclusion that the backwardness of the region is not the geographical cause anymore. The lack of positive attitude of the leaders and state is delaying progress in the region.

We understand that leadership in China has different take on development processes. We have heard about the development of Tibet, the neighboring part of Nepal. Extremely underdeveloped parts of Tibet are now connected by great highways and have many economic centers.

Nepal is now in stage of Democratic Republic. The success of any political system depends on its leadership. The leadership must push the nation towards prosperity. And only the efforts for equal development of Terai, Mountain and Himal can result in the prosperity of Nepal.

Nepal China Women Friendship Society is an organization registered under the national law. It has conducted various activities in the past. Also on the issues of women from mountainous regions, it has conducted various meetings with women from those regions. This event is a result of these efforts. We hope and believe that the scholars of this event will be able to contribute their ideas for the upliftment of women in these areas.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to all guests that are here accepting our invitation. Thank you. Namaste, sei sei.
