H.E. Mr. Yang Houlan, Ambassador, China
It is my great pleasure to attend the inauguration ceremony of Nepal China Women Friendship Society. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warm congratulations to the establishment of NCWFS, and my sincere thanks to all the participants here for your long-time contributions to China-Nepal Friendship.
There is in China called “women can hold up half of the sky”. China and Nepal are good neighbors linked by rivers and mountains. During the long history of friendly exchanges between us, women also play a significant role as “half of the sky”. As early as the 7th Century, Nepal’s Princess Bhrikuti crossed mountains and cliffs to marry with Chinese Tibetan Srongten Gampo, became the herald and model of friendly exchanges between our two countries. Today, Chinese and Nepalese women in all sectors continue to use their diligence and wisdom to make contributions to China-Nepal friendship. I hope the establishment of Nepal China Women Friendship Society will further push forward women’s friendly exchanges in various areas between China Nepal, to promote China-Nepal relations comprehensively.
China and Nepal are good neighbors, good partners and good friends. Since the establishment of diplomatic relation between China and Nepal 56 years ago , no matter how the international and domestic situation changed, our bilateral relations have develop healthily, smoothly and comprehensively, the exchanges and contact in various areas such as politics, economy, culture and security have continued to deepen. Since I came to work in Nepal six months ago, wherever I go, I feel sincere and deep friendship that Nepali people extended to Chinese. The deep people to people friendship is the Solid foundation for our two countries continuously expand the mutual exchanges and cooperation is an extremely important part of bilateral relationship, and makes me fully confident about China-Nepal relations.
In order to continue to develop the China-Nepal friendly cooperation comprehensively, many Nepal-china friendship organizations in various forms established successively in Nepal which makes the bright future of China-Nepal relations more clearly. I believe, these friendship organization will become the engine to constantly enhance China-Nepal comprehensive partnership of corporation featuring everlasting friendship, just like waves in Yangtze river the waves behind drive on those before.
At last, I wish the prosperity of Nepal China women Friendship Society and may China-Nepal friendship last forever!
Ms Purnashova Chitrakar, Chairperson of Nepal China Women Friendship Society (NCWFS)
Your Excellency Yang Houlan, Mrs. Ruwan B, CA members, Government officials, dignitaries, media persons, representatives from different Agencies, Professionals or Intellectuals and all of colleagues & comrades present here. First of all, I should like to take this opportunity to greet all of you with 'Namaskar' & 'Abhibadan' from my core of hearts, and to welcome to this inaugural ceremony on behalf of Nepal China Women Friendship Society (NCWFS).
Nepal China Women Friendship (NCWFS) has been founded in a bid to help strengthen bilateral relationship between the two countries, to promote women capacity building program, and work out for the interests of women between Nepal and China by sharing experiences. This Society aims at publishing life histories of various inspiring women dignitaries of two countries, collecting and managing resource-materials regarding them, launching programs for women education and promotion of employment, sharing of experiences & skills and exchanging of transfer of technology so as to making women vocational, organizing programs for the discovery of Nepal and China, and furthermore exchanging of visits from time to time between Nepal and China, among others.
It is an opportunity for Nepal to become a neighbor of such large country like the Republic of China. We feel that we can learn and do more things from the more advanced country China than ours in the field of development.
Nepal and China are neighbors across high mountains. The relation between Nepal and China is centuries old. The relation between these countries has been existed amicable - politically, economically and socially. In order to deepening relation, the contribution made by Bhrikuti in history may be taken with pride. Nepal has always remained in favor of One China Policy in our relation.
We are now acknowledged that many institutions or agencies have come into existence to work out for the interests of Nepal and China. But, in the mean time we felt that there was lack of institution to work for keeping women of Nepal and China into nucleus in the contexts of relation of these countries. All agree that women are half portion of human kinds. The development process is only possible when you equally make this half portion participate to each of the functioning of the society. The women of these two countries are advancing ahead struggling against traditional social impediments and demanding for priority of women rights in the political sector, and are endeavoring to find out financial and social status in the society. But, for all round development of women and the society as a whole, however, there are so many things such as sharing of mutual experiences, as well as learning from each other is yet to be done. In the context of open world, I believe, it is in the interest of women to go ahead mutually shouldering to each other. Thanks to this belief, this Nepal China Women Friendly Society came into existence.
There is one saying that:
"Only you dare, thousands hands may join with you."
This saying, I feel, has been characterized in the founding process of this institution. I have, of course, received inspirations, warm cooperation and support from many more learned persons, intellectuals, politicians, professionals, social workers, journalists, among others, in favor of this institution. This gracious presence of distinguished guests is only a small representation of that cooperation.
Furthermore, founding an institution is not sufficient enough. The main objective is to make it run actively and perpetually. In order to obtaining desirable consequence, firm determination and continuity at work in a planned way, and reformation of the institution if needed as per time and situation is perhaps required for the purpose. We dare to have this work done. For successful implementation, you are required to provide inspiration, encouragement and cooperation we are receiving now. I look forward to hearing from you of such continuous cooperation, support and inspiration from you in the days to come.
Now here in the context I prefer to extract another quotation:
"Tell me I will forget,
Show me I will remember,
Participate with me I will understand."
Yet, I have tried to derive ideas from this quotation. To understand the world by women and to get things done, you don't have to become only followers but are required to have been innovative in the single process of transformation and to come to fore.
Now at last, I would like to express our cordial thanks and Namaskar to Your Excellency Ambassador for your gracious presence in this program in order to providing inspiration and making the program successful, and to Your Excellency Mrs. Ruwan B. and to all my colleagues & comrades, cooperators and well-wishers all present here.
M/S Sulochana Manandhar
Here it's needless to mention of cordial relation that has been existed for centuries between Nepal and China and of peoples of two countries. It is unique either because of the legend of Manjushree often heard over centuries passed by, or of Bhrikuti or Arniko or historical records shared by both countries. Moreover, our geographical immediacy or cultural intimacy may prove how near and dear is our neighborlihood existed between Nepal and China. However, we have not come yet a long of intimacy of relations at people to people level between the two countries. Only it was feasible in the aftermath of the Chinese Revolution of 1949 and democratic change of 1951 in Nepal. Notwithstanding series of friendly associations were opened at people to people level since then, no any women friendly society could have been ever conceived with a mission of bridging the specific relation between women of these two countries that is why, this institution came into existence. While establishing a women friendly society so belatedly in the series of events, I, however, now feel shame to myself; it is definitely a matter of pleasure for all on the other side - despite being very late.
We are yet to learn many things from China – the list of which could be made. After 1949, there have been drastic changes in China. While in transition to the radical change, China had to undergo many ups and downs. But, as far as emancipation and freedoms of the women of China is concerned, they are empowered, capable of doing things and self-reliant, and are entitled to secure life that is stable and further blooming up in the sky of the Republic of China. Hence, out of many aspects we have to learn from China, the most dominating one, as I think, is women empowerment and freedoms.
Since I am proud of the opportunity of five years I spent a very important segment of my life over there in China, I am here unhesitatingly standby to admire of enforceable aspects of Chinese women. I always happened to see women of China strolling over at midnight quit alone along the silence roads with any kind of fear in their minds. In case of delivery I found husband, child and their family were getting services & benefits from the state. Moreover, when I noticed roles of women as drivers to scientists or engineers, so I felt we have to learn much more from the state itself that is aware of women's rights & freedoms. My colleagues including M/S Purnashova who is now chairing this ceremony are still struggling for women's rights & freedoms from their youths till date have enabled us very much to speak of women's emancipation right now. As I have the honor to quote here what I felt, realized or happened to see in China - the experiences of which have further reinforced me in our endeavor for struggle.
We are now proud enough that we have been successful to form this Nepal China Women Friendship Society (NCWFS) in a bid to bridging two women of us. To the importance of the program, here you are Your Excellency Ambassador with Your Spouse to attend this program, I should like to offer warm welcome to you, and to dignitaries, important leaders from various political parties, media persons, among others, who are present here despite their business. And in the mean time I wouldn't quit to provide warm welcome to those too many gentlemen who honor, respect and regard women as mothers, sisters, friends or mates or partners. And in the end, I would like to conclude my welcome speech by saying Happy New Year of 2012 that is soon coming forth with bright future to you all.
Mr. Bairagi Kahila, Chancelor, Nepal Intellectual Academy
While coming to this bold and splendid program organized by sisters, I would, at the outset, like to congratulate to all of you sisters present here. As a matter of fact, the credit for beginning of relationship between Nepal and China goes to the sister. That renowned artist Arniko covered a very big dimensions in the scope of arts in China is another thing. But, when Bhrikuti reached Tibet, the relation turned into cultural and social ties, and that relation perpetually exists since then; and extended to industry, commerce & business as well between the countries, and now as you know the road to Khasa is going to join with Lhasa and next connecting road is being made.
Long ago, friends who used to go to Nepalganj, they would make their livelihood and would not return back. I remember a good anthropologist apparently revealed how the Nepalese spent their days in Tibet. It is because of the sisters that our relationship extended to social, cultural and business levels. To revitalize that tradition in new contexts as per time and situation again, sisters of ours have thus endeavored which, I think, is very appreciable. As you know there are two very big countries in the south and in the north of our country - of which we are in between them, and we are proud of that too, and that we have been successful to establish a very friendly and good relationship. Perhaps because they have good will towards us, and existing friendly relation made us successful in establishing good relation between us. Now I adore here a new beginning of works is visualized and wishing it of all success, I prefer to mention that instead of one Bhrikuti you are here so many Bhrikuties who could be successful in sustaining this institution as a cottage.
M/S Urmila Aryal, Former Minister, CPN- UML
As honorable Chancellor rightly remarked - certainly instead of one Bhrikuti, there have been born so many Bhrikuties in this context. You could have done it earlier, yet I would like to thank you initiators despite being late. The relation & links were prevailing over centuries between Nepal and China. While I made visit to China, I felt there are so many things to learn from China. The important point how China is resorted to the Alleviation of Poverty. I got excited when I happened to see comprehensive programs such as rehabilitation of the vulnerable people systematically in operation with employments. Of a plan in China, I appreciated their implementation practice where I found the target already been visualized and rapidly going on monitoring its progress until completion. I was at surprise about achieving the target-standard in alleviating poverty within 4 years' duration, or accelerating per capita income of the people in order to meeting the target, among others. Statesmen of China I saw were committed to any plan of works implementing them within a timeframe - working in a planned or systematic way – the practice of which may be inspiring to us. We are yet to learn many things from the Chinese leaders, such as soon adapting themselves to or accepting new things, and easily marketing of their products through planned economy, among others. Desperately we have a set culture of making demands and shouting slogans against own government or others. We should be ready to learn many things from sharing. It is a matter of pride at having good relation with China over centuries. We shouldn't hesitate to follow the way in which China is speeding up the pace of development, and the way she has been moving forward systematically with a new identity into the world arena. This founding of this Nepal China Women Friendship Society has undoubtedly opened the opportunity for Nepal to proceed to the development process and prosperity of the country. Above all, our relation has remained friendly and is so anticipated in the days to come.
Mr. Suresh Malla, Former Minister, Nepali Congress
First I wish that this Nepal China Women Friendship Society shall help to strengthen the Nepal China relation existing over centuries, and to tie up political, social, economical & cultural aspects in a more practicable way. History justifies that the relation between Nepal and China was knotted from on Bhrikuti till date and consequently it turned into friendly, good will and fraternal relation based on interdependency. That the people of China made spread teachings of Buddha - who was born in Nepal, across the greatly stretched lands of China, and belief in Buddhism - Buddhist teaching method has strongly tied up the relation between Nepal and China.
To me, writing Muna Madan by Laxmi Prasad Devkota too has tied up our relation. The formation of this Nepal China Women Friendship Society shall help strengthen our relation for centuries. In this context, I hope each of our sisters shall play role of Bhrikuti to approach goodwill of highway of Nepal into the heart of China by fascinating intimacy between women of Nepal and China, and by sharing political, social, economic aspects and cultural heritage, and thereby making the relation furthermore tied up between the two countries. Even with geographical perspective, we are friends of adjustment. I wish prospective future of this Society.
M/S Mina Pandey, CA Member, Nepali Congress
That the idea of Nepal China Women Friendship Society as a medium of mutual understanding of relation between Nepal and the neighboring country China in an friendly atmosphere, and of learning each other from exchange of views between them seems itself to be very appreciating. Nepal has taken Bhrikuti as a milestone of relationship. As I have known that people of China have attributed to speedy development of their country, and thereby have now possessed the power to challenge even to the world. We too have been trying to catch up with their speed, but in vain. To me, this is because of the political instability in the country. We should encourage China for boosting up the speed of economy in the whole of Asia. We are to learn many things from China, such as economic, social development, modernization process etc. There were and still exists diplomatic relation or other kinds of links in different sectors between Nepal and good neighboring country China. In addition, cherished functions of this Nepal China Women Friendship Society shall be tested by history in future. Surely this is a good start in the process. China is, of course, a good friend of ours diplomatically. From on now, it is hoped Nepalese women shall discover good friends in Chinese counterparts, and the vice versa.
M/S Renu Chand, CA Membe, (UCPN-Maoist)
I entered into politics by being influenced by Maotse-Tung Thought. It means to say that relation between Nepal and China is not extended in economic and social fields only but also in sharing ideology as well, hence it is mutually very close. Today founding of this Nepal China Women Friendship Society has explored new horizon of identifying cooperation. I would like to appreciate and welcome this step. As you know there is a saying in China that women occupy ‘half of the sky’ of human beings. Today while China stands as an economic power in the world arena, we may assume by this fact that how important role was provided to the ‘half of the sky’ or the women of China for securing such status to China. As you know in Nepal, women occupy 53% of the population. While there was definitely given an integrated role to women in China in the development process, so is the result for China and so is there the desire and anticipation from women of Nepal. In this respect, I cordially stand that this Society may search out roles of women in the Nepalese society. I hope similar roles shall be orchestrated by the Nepalese women to that of Chinese women in a bid to making Nepal economically viable, and China will cooperate with their neighboring country in her endeavor of being self-reliant.
Ms Yashoda Adhikari, General-Secretary, Nepal China Women Friendship Society(NCWFC)
The Women of China are moving ahead in different sectors. While I made China visit we exchanged experiences or views between us. We would like to continue or extend our relations. This Society shall continue efforts in these respects. I would like to express our cordial thanks & gratitude to Your Excellency Ambassador attended here as chief guest for providing inspiration and for making this program successful, and to Your Excellency Mrs. Ruwan B. and other distinguished Chinese guests, CA members, Chancellor & intellectuals, Government officials, media persons, guests from different Agencies as well as my colleagues & comrades all attending this program on behalf of Nepal China Women Friendship Society (NCWFC). In addition, I would like to look forward to hearing more co-operations from you all in the days to come, and lastly make a request to chairing person M/S Purnashova Chitrakar to declare the ceremony is concluded.
