Coder Girls 2019: Getting Started with Robotics!

After a successful completion of Coder Girls 2018, we are back again with a new session of Coder Girls! We will be using our experience from Coder Girls 2018 to develop a more concise 2-day workshop focused on programming mini bots using Calliope mini from Open Roberta Lab. During the two days workshop, we will be developing a gesture controlled mini bots that can compete in a small competitive game. We will start with the basics of programming and delve further into robotics. We are hoping to encourage and inspire the participants to take up programming and robotics academically as well as professionally after the end of this session.

In the age when robots are slowly becoming an integral part of human life, bots can provide solutions for sustainable development challenges especially in a country like Nepal, where resources are extremely limited. We need specialized robots that are efficient, economic and sustainable in the context of Nepal. Unfortunately, University/College programs in Nepal are largely theoretical and rarely provide any hands-on experience to the students. The upcoming fourth session of the Coder Girls Program will try to address this issue by providing selected girls with hands-on experience in building and programming small bots. The idea of the Coder Girls Program is to start a movement that encourages college girls to innovate in the field of robotics by teaching them the basics to get started.

WODES and Naya invites girls - students or professional - to participate in the Coder Girls program either as a participant or a mentor. This is your opportunity to learn, work and compete with girls from various backgrounds!
