Subarnadwar - Golden Gate



The main entrance to Hanuman Dokha palace is specially designed and ornamented. On each side of the Subarnadwar are lion statue with "Shiva" over the right lion and "Shakti" over left lion, both having four hands and wearing a garland of human heads, act as guards.

Although there are artifacts belonging to the Malla period, the Subarnadwar or Golden Gate was constructed by king Girbanayuddha Bikram Shah in 1867 B.S.

On the Pigeon hole type of space, like a window, on the top of the gate there are three artistic statues..

1. In the Left side., Krishna in the dancing pose between Rukmani & Satyabhama. 2. In the Middle., Krishna's thousand headed & handed statue in the form of the Virat Vishwarup, a ferocious Tantric version of Krishna. 3. In the Right side., The image of King playing "Beena" a musical instrument and decorated with ornaments and fine dress, listening near him is the Queen. It is believed that this is the image of King Pratap Malla and his wife.
