Jyapu Mahaguthi



The 3rd district conference of Jyapu Maha Guthi at Basantapur, Kathmandu on Saturday, 23rd of March 2014. PM Sushil Koirala attended the ceremony as the words of wisdom was spoken by the head of the Jyapu community and talking about the new Constitution of Nepal and talking about the place and the preservation of the culture.

In Kathmandu valley, the Jyapu community is the most active indigenous Newar community. The Jyapu community has established its own existence; from farming to pottery, playing music to preserving their culture, language, lifestyle, costumes and arts.

Keeping broad mission to preserve traditional culture, costumes and music, to contribute towards nation development, to uplift lifestyle of the community and to raise political awareness in the community, the Jyapu Mahaguthi was established in Nepal Sambat 1113 ( B.S. 2050).

Objectives..

to bring Jyapu people together to preserve and promote traditional and cultural values, arts and language to uplift lifestyle of the people through education to raise political awareness in the community to establish linkage and coordination between national and international organisations having similar objectives (from http://jmgkathmandu.org/main/?p=home…)
