Magnitude-7.8 Great Quake rocked Nepal with devastating force on April 25. The earthquake killed more than 8,800 people, injured more than 23,000 and caused about $2 billion in economic losses. Over 8 million people have been affected by the massive earthquake and an estimated 1.4 million are in need of food assistance.

This is a time of crisis for many families in Nepal. The situation is, however, even more difficult for persons with disabilities (PwDs). It is naturally difficult for them to get to safer areas quickly, find relief materials or maintain daily lives in temporary shelters. Most PwDs are often compelled to wait for assistance from others. But the fact that many of them live in extremely remote areas where assistance may not reach on time has made matters worse.

Our PwD representatives, understanding this issue well, organized relief campaigns to support PwDs living in various parts of the country. This campaign through the WODES/NCBL relief fund has already provided relief packages to over 200 PwDs.
