Kaal Bhairav



Situated in North Western part of the Hanumandhoka Royal Palace, the idol of kaal Bhairav made from black stone is considered to be one of the terrifying aspect of Lord Shiva. It has no temple to house it so it is regarded as a unique temple among all the temples in Nepal.

The idol stands 12 feet tall over a dead body and wears a garland of human skull. It is believed to be built in Medieval Period and criminals were punished in front of this idol. Many criminals confessed their crime when they were placed in front of this idol. So it was considered as a God of Justice.
