When Is the Park Open?

Rajaji National Park welcomes visitors for safaris from mid-November through June 30 each year. The park then closes for the monsoon season starting July 1, as heavy rainfall makes forest tracks unsafe and disrupts natural wildlife movement. It typically reopens in mid-November, once the forest has dried out and conditions stabilize.

A Month-by-Month Look at the Safari Season

November–December: The season opens with pleasant daytime weather and clear skies, ideal for spotting wildlife against a freshly green, post-monsoon landscape. Mornings can be crisp, so warm layers are worth packing.

January–February: Mornings are cold and often misty, but once visibility clears, this period is excellent for bird watching, with migratory species flocking to the park in large numbers.

March–April: As temperatures climb, animals start visiting waterholes more predictably — one of the sweet spots for tiger and elephant sightings.

May–June: The forest heats up and animals depend heavily on waterholes, meaning far more frequent sightings, especially tigers. Days get warm, but early morning safaris stay cool and highly rewarding. This is also the final stretch before the park closes on June 30.
